Acer Iconia Tab W500

The Acer Iconia Tab W500 is a new 10.1-inch tablet that is different from other tablets in the market. Most people don’t want to work on a tablet for extended periods because it is not comfortable. The Acer Iconia Tab W500 however, solves this problem by providing a keyboard dock. The Iconia Tab W500 will be available in March 2011 in the UK, for about £450 each. But with the keyboard dock added, the Iconia Tab W500 costs £530.

Because the tablet has a keyboard dock, it has lots of features that other tablets don’t have. When the tablet is in the dock, the users don’t have to hold it so that their hands are free and they can type comfortably on the keyboard. The keyboard is not too small. It is just like the keyboard of a netbook. The users can also move the cursor around using the keyboard, but of course, tapping on the screen instead is a lot easier.

Using the dock, the users can access the Ethernet port, so that they can connect to the web with a more reliable and speedy connection, compared to a Wi-Fi connection. There is an HDMI port on the dock that allows the users to connect the tablet to an HDTV. The dock also has a USB socket to connect other devices. However, there is only one USB socket, so that the users may need to use a USB hub. To use the keyboard, the users don’t need an electricity plug because it is a non-powered device. The console gets the power from the USB socket.

The Iconia Tab W500 uses USB to connect to the keyboard, with two pins to hold it in place. To conceal the connection when it is not being used, the dock has a foldable flap. However, the flap makes most people think that the screen folds downwards. This is a misleading design because people tend to try to fold the screen down and they may accidentally crack the device.

To access all of the features that the Iconia Tab W500 has, the users can use the Acer Ring interface. It is a unique interface that is added to the Windows. The Acer Ring presents applications and options in a large circular design. The Iconia Tab W500 has some built-in apps, such as a screen capture tool, and an app that helps the users to clean up some space for storage.

Regarding feature, the Iconia Tab W500 has Bluetooth 3.0 and Wi-Fi. The tablet is available in two types, with or without 3G connectivity. The tablet has two 1.3MP Acer Crystal webcams, one on the front and the other one on the back. A 1GHz AMD C-50 Dual-Core processor powers the Iconia Tab W500 with AMD Radeon HD 6250 GPU.

The Iconia Tab W500 provides a great solution to the problem that most tablets have. It gives the users the ability to sit down comfortably just like when they are using a laptop, while still enjoying the tablet portability.
